What should I do if I am in a car accident?

Car accident is unfortunate event no one wants to experience. Here are some tips that can help you resolve accident matters.

  1. Find a Safe Place

Once a driver involved in accident, one should be trying to avoid further damage to person or property. If vehicle is drivable and no one get serious injured, try to move vehicle to safe place. If either vehicle gets significant damage or the persons involved gets injured, try to stay where you are.

  1. Call the Authorities

If you are in U.S., dial 9-1-1. A dispatcher will send police, and investigate the accident. If itโ€™s questionable to find who was at fault in the accident, give the police officer your side of the story. Officer will determine whether or not they should issue citation and document the accident. When persons get seriously injured, request an ambulance to the dispatcher.

  1. Get Picture of Scene and Exchange Information When Possible

Taking pictures of the accident scene will help in accident reporting and claim investigation. Pictures of property damage to both partyโ€™s vehicle will help you better in giving accurate information to your insurance company.

  1. Contact Your Insurance Agent

Insurance agent can helps to file a claim especially when insured has a language barrier. Agent will suggest ways to file a claim depends on your situation
