Vehicle Registration Steps for Newcomer from Outside of Georgia

  1. Within 30 days of moving to Georgia you are required to visit the nearest Department of Driver Services (DDS) Customer Service Center. Bring along:
    • Your current license,
    • Proof of your Social Security number,
    • 2 proofs of Georgia residency (such as a bank statement, utility bill, or rental contract),
    • Proof of identity (such as a birth certificate, passport, or immigration card).

Additional documents required if you are changing your name. Visit the Department of Driver Services website Ā to create a Custom Checklist and be sure you arrive with the necessary documents. You’ll be required to hand over your former license, pay the license fee, and receive a temporary license. Just a few weeks later, your permanent license will arrive by mail. Ā  2-A. Buy an auto insurance policy: If you already have vehicle or move from other states, contact our office at 770-234-0606 or info@cornerstonewide.com to get an auto quote. Bring along:

  • Copy of GA Driver’s license
  • Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
  • Current insurance declaration page

Ā 2-B. If you are from out of country, contact our office at 770-234-0606 or info@cornerstonewide.com to get an auto quote. Bring along:

  • Copy of GA Driver’s license or international License
  • Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or year, make and model
  • 2 proofs of Georgia residency (such as a bank statement, utility bill, or rental contract)

If you have prior insurance documents in ENGLISH or translated by embassy, prior carrier or independent authority, you may able to receive discount. If you did not obtain GA Driver’s license yet, you can still able to buy an auto policy but there will be surcharge.

  1. How to register your vehicle
    • New or used vehicle purchase from auto dealer: Dealer provide vehicle register services to help to process this step. Contact dealer to find out.

If dealer does not help to get plate, please go to local registration office (DMV) to get plate.

  • Existing vehicle: Bring auto insurance documents, GA Driver’s license, title, and emission test result documents to your local registration office. (For Application information, please check the DMV homepage) (Please check the link to find the Emission Test information)
  • DMV may charge penalty for failure of register vehicle within 30 days after move to GA
